Lake Agnes - Big Beehive - Lake Louise, Banff National Park
When I arrived at the much heralded Lake Louise at Banff National Park on my sojourn through the Canadian Rockies, I was expecting a lot due to the hype and it definitely met up to my expectations.
After spending some time by the lakeside soaking in the majestic views of the blue azure waters that were surrounded by glacier capped mountains, we decided to hike up the Lake Agnes trail.
It is a steep hike that has a couple of stops one at Mirror Lake and the second at the teahouse that they have built up at the end of the trail. The mosquitoes will kill you so make sure that you have insect repellant handy. It was a beautiful day so the hike was pleasurable to say the least.
After the first stop at the Mirror Lake went up the Lake Agnes which is a moderate 4.5 mile roundtrip, wife and I had gone up this but it was truly beautiful and quaint up top with the teahouse serving very expensive tea as was expected. Carry enough water to keep hydrated.
Wife decided to head back while I decided to move on towards the Big Beehive a very steep climb that lasts about a mile and a half, so it was short enough. I had no idea that it would be as spectacular as it was on top of the Big Beehive though with views of Lake Loiuse that are indescribeable.
After spending some time soaking in that incredible view headed down the Beehive from the other side of the mountain, the views coming down are hohum. Was contemplating going to the Plain of The Six Glaciers on the way down since there was a turnout but that would have added another 4 miles to the trip which I did not have factored in, plus wife was alone at the Lake Louis shore, which is not altogether a bad place to be.
It was truly a beautiful and very rewarding hike one of many that you can do, in my favorite place on earth till date the Canadian Rockies.
